A watershed-restoration group called Friends of Five Creeks will be working on Cerrito Creek Mar.14 from 10am-2pm. They are urgently asking for volunteers as another group has backed out on them.
I highly recommend going to the event if you can. They've host similar projects before which have been pretty fun in the past.
The place is close enough to get to on bus, but if you guys want to go as a group, just sign up on our website (link at bottom of email) and we can arrange a time and place to meet.
Here is a copy of the email they sent us:
Hey folks!
Please help Friends of Five Creeks on Cerrito Creek this Sunday, March 14! At the last minute, the Student Conservation Association has backed out of a major service project this coming Sunday with Friends of Five Creeks, an all-volunteer watershed-restoration group.
Volunteers are urgently needed to help spread decomposed granite on the creekside trail adjacent to El Cerrito Plaza, 10 AM - about 2 PM, this coming Sunday, March 14. This lovely reach of creek that was restored five years ago. Chorus frogs sing and spring wildflowers are blooming.
Meet at the north end of Cornell/south edge of El Cerrito Plaza, on the Albany-El Cerrito border. This site is easily reached on the 52L bus, which leaves Bancroft and Telegraph every half hour (9:08, 9:38, 10:08 etc.) and takes you to El Cerrito Plaza BART. Take the ramp down into the shopping center parking lot and continue south and west to the creek at the far (south) edge of the parking lot.
Information is at
www.fivecreeks.org; On Sunday, if you can't find the spot, call 510 599 4709. We will work in a drizzle, but heavy rain cancels.
Thanks if you can manage this!
