On March 11, an 8.9-magnitude earthquake struck off the northeast coast of Japan, triggering a tsunami that swept through the city of Sendai and other communities on the northeastern coast. A series of high magnitude aftershocks continues to hit the area. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami alert for all countries on the Pacific Coast.
The American Red Cross Club at Cal invites you to join us as we take action in
helping those affected by the earthquake in Japan and tsunami throughout the Pacific.
All this week (3/14/11-3/18/11) we will be tabling on Upper Sproul to collect donations to support the disaster relief efforts.
As a symbol of hope for relief and healing for those affected during this difficult time, we want
YOU to help us make and collect
1000 paper cranes, in honor of those impacted by the earthquake in Japan and tsunami throughout the Pacific. From
10am-2pm Monday-Friday this week, come to the American Red Cross at Cal table for instructions and supplies to make your contribution to the effort.
Also, come join the
International Committee this Thursday from 7-8pm in 126 Barrows, where we will continue to learn about the relief efforts taking place, collect donations, make cranes to reach our goal, and discuss other international efforts you can get involved in. The meeting will be immediately followed by the
World Water Week Showcase and Performance event (
