"Hey all,

I am a member of the American Red Cross at Cal Club and we are trying to raise awareness and donations for the Hurricane Sandy disaster relief.

At the end of October, Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast and affected millions of people in 23 states.  Some states felt the initial intense tropical effects, and others felt a harsh winter storm, and the entire super storm covered an area about the size of Europe. New York City’s subway system suffered the most damage is ever has since it opened in 1904, which provided a serious economic issue for the transit system and for businesses across that city; commuters have had to rely on buses, which often require hours-long wait. Damage is being estimated at around $50 billion, which would make it the second costliest US natural disaster, only behind Hurricane Katrina. (Please note that the property damage number is not affiliated with the size, scope and estimated expense of the Red Cross’s response.)

The American Red Cross has been on the scene with over 9,000 volunteer workers and 300 emergency response vehicles providing over 6 million meals and snacks, 2 million relief clean up and hygiene kits, 65,000 people with emotional support & health contacts, and providing 75,000+ people with overnight stays in shelters. Your financial donations make the greatest and most immediate impact, helping the Red Cross provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance to those affected by disasters like Hurricane Sandy.

Please help a cause that means a lot to me and will directly help others who are currently in need - the people affected by Hurricane Sandy - by donating to the American Red Cross. Anything you can donate will help and does make a difference!

Thank you so much for your kindness and happy holidays to you and your family,
